Silence of Our Dreams

Sorrow held in blood and bone runs freely like a river to the sea

And I am caught between the rocks and stones and straining to be free

My heart knows not the whereabouts of all we hold in wonder

Like a spark of summer lightning in the sky when thunder rolls.

Where are the gods and goddesses when we really need them?

Are they hanging in the super sky listening to our pleas?

Do they hear us when we holler? Do they see us when we scream?

Do they notice that we’re giving them the Silence of Our Dreams?

Like a rock I have been hardened to the ways of earth and sky

I am truly a child of all the wonders passing by

And I take what I am given and I give back what I can

Tell me, do you think that we will ever find the promised land?

Where are the gods and goddesses when we really need them?

Are they hanging in the super sky listening to our pleas?

Do they hear us when we holler? Do they see us when we scream?

Do they notice that we’re giving them the Silence of Our Dreams?

[improv interlude]

Like the grasses blowing in the wind and mountains standing covered

By the ice and snow of ages passing over, through, and under us

We pray for all the people who are tossed and led astray

Our hearts are weary but our hopes are high that the miracles are standing by

While the sun and stars light up the sky to make another day.

Where are the gods and goddesses

[They are here, there, everywhere]

When we really need them?

Are they hanging in the super sky?

[Hanging in the super sky]

Listening to our pleas?

[Listening to our pleas]

Do they hear us when we holler?

Do they see us when we scream?

Do they know that we are giving them

Do they know that we are giving them

Do they know that we are giving them
